This improvement terves several purposes. Bein- provi-1 ded with plenty of waiaud having boee attachextTor" extinguishing fire, it can throw water over the top of the factory and on all tbe neighboring buildings from which dangernnight be apprehended. The boiler being large it thoroughly, warms the factory during ld spells. When all other faetori- a net go wel arranged will be compelled to stop operations, the work here will go smoothly on. They also have a dry btuse to which tbe steam is con veyed by pipes for seasoning hogshead timber.

The cost of this improvement will be saved in a very short time iy lessening the rates of fire Insurance. Hupklusvllle l.aar lubaccu Market. Editors Tobacco Leaf If Mr. Clark is getting up hats for large heads he can take my cranium into consideration, though it is not a buzzardJiead nor. an owl head, neither is it a h'igsheid. E. Hill, George S. Irwiu of the Central Warehouse, has just returned from an extended trip through Christian, Trigg, Todd and Logan counties, and Robertson county, lenn. He brings favorable reports for our market. Many planters who have heretofore hrppWWttirpitaTffiBatttf will try Clarksvilie this year, enticed hither by the general good prices ruling on our boards, and the efficient and business-like manner in which our warehouses are conducted.

AIXEJISVILLE TOBACCO FAIR. A Graad Dlcplar The ToWco Fair hejd by Messrs. Haddox Broo. was a splendid success. Th weather was pleasant and, farmers gathertnlja lizsj- all quarters with their sampiesr aua were there to -see aua sxn.

There were in all 74 entries, itM doubt there would have been many UQr bad the weather been seasonable for handling. Eighteen samples, how. vert were ruiea wui ueuig uuu weight. The prein iubSs were onerea lor th hmt'ten pounds, and several exhib- tors demanded thaftbe samples should all be weighed and all" tinder ten pounds ruled out, which was done some falling a quarter of a pound be low the weight Mr. u.

jitusl brought in ai very fine aataple on Friday that weighed 10 pounds and in 24 hours it-dried losing half a pound and was tuled ouV -T1 th others. Mr. Charley Haddox far very par-ticular to hw tb-irtrictly om-plied with and full ytisliee done, so that there could be nd; codplaint, the management, we are sure, was such as toeive sausfacnon j.ne samples were all numbered, with owners names re moved, to that the judge could not possibly know any one; After ar-rangemente were all complete and samnlea spread out on alone Uble, the judges were invited ie, Mr. J. E.

Jes- Up of liopkinsviiis; J. xj. neims of, and Capt. Tom Herndon Of Clarksviilo, were appointed a com mittee to award all tte premiums. After carefully examining all the sampler the premiums were awarded as follows Best 10 lbs.

black wrapper, premi um bv Turnlev. Elv Kennedy of the Ebphant warehouse, 25, awarded io Mr. J. C. H.

Farmer of Robertson founty, Tenn. Best 10 lbs. shipping leaf, premium fev Messrs. Haddox a fine two- horse was-on. worth $85, awarded to Mr.

J. B. Jackson, Logan county, Ky. Best 10 lbs. African, premium by Mers.

Haddox a fine saddle worth $25, awarded to Mr. Jess Hill of Kobertaori count, Tenn. It was a handsome display" of very rich useful tobacco, large and leafy, which shows the rop to be one of tbe best for stemming, shipping leaf or African ever raised in tbe Oaf ksville district. There were some very fair wrappers, but none really fine. Just as we have expected, the growth was too luxuriant and bappy, consequently too course for fine wrapper.

There was a delect in many samples which it seems impossible to get most farmers to understand. Xbat is, a mixture of all sites and. colors, now and then a mohogany Ipsf in a sample of black wrapper, aud a general mix lure of colors and in the ship per, showing a lew leaves of wrapjier that would be worth mere classed to itself. or instance if Messrs. should pre ''s samples exjtbitefrisr--r-Div- I AlrTCan-TO- not have a first of anf kind, only arcommon shipper, be cause it must be' re-sorted by the manu facturer- to make it answer' his pur poses. This was the object of the fair to teach tanners the importance ot classing tobaee properly and what the various qualities and grades are used for. At the close of the fair several tobacco judges were aligned to each class to explain to planters these diner ences in grades and why tbey should not be mixed. Messrs. Haddox Bro.

deserve much credit for their enterprise in this particular, as well as for the liberal premiums given, lney are live men in the grocery and agricultural trade, and there is no estimating their value to the Aliensville community. -We have never seen an occasion of the kind pass off more pleasantly and satisfacto rily. It is true that competition was spirited, every one equally conhdent Of taking a premium, and many of course had to go away disappointed, yet good humor and fraternal feeling prevailed throughout. The planters were somewhat disap pointed at not seeing a strong force of Clarksvilie buyers present. They had promised to be there, and were expect ed judge the tair, and we regret.

also that tbey were not there to add inspiration to the occasion. 1 he del eeation from Ularfcsviue was Messrs. Turnley, Ely Kennedy of the Ele pbant Warehouse CapV Kerudeu and Jimmie Smith of the Grange Warehouse Mr. Ike Shelby 6f th Gracer Warehouse; Mr. J.

Burke Ws sDent a pleasant 'day with tbe farmers, and added quitea lar ie list of new subscribers to our roll, al thout'h our circulation through that section was already large. We learned by talking with the planters that many are heeding our advice to keep back the lugs and sell the trood. heard of a farmer whorTiad been of fered 8c. for his leaf if he would keep back the lugs.

Batter sell at 8c. and throw away the lugs than sell for 6c round The show wound up late in the eve oing, everybody feeling pleasant and in good humor. The Clarksvilie dele gation got their spirits up aud made Mr. Walter Gill a present of a new bridle. It was resolved unbecoming the dignity of the vice-president of the Grange Warehouse Association to ride with a knotty reined bridle and that he must "fcave a hew one.

Burke was appointed to present the brid'e, or rather to put it oh the horse in place of the old ene. Mr. Gill was then called on for a speech. He observed that Prof. Williams was em ployed to do his speaking, and, in the absence of Williams, "Buzzard Farm er" did the job.

Prof. Williams left early in the afternoon, aod Mr. Farmer" was also absent. Mr. Gill will no doubt have, that speech written for publication.

The Clarksvilie delegation must bear from bim on the interesting event. Wast Taaaea.ee Toaacce. Mr. Geo. Rummage of Trezevant, in ordering the Tobacco Leaf for his Mr.

If the farmers would take a little more pains in preparing it for market, handle and prize neatly, the crop of West Tennessee I think would show fifty per cent, better than tbe last crop."
