Drugs in the Advantages of a 5-in-1 Children's Vaccine A recent study published in the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal reveals that 5-in-1 combination vaccines may increase the number of children receiving vaccines in a timely manner, while decreasing the number of shots for protection against potentially deadly diseases.

The socalled 5-in-l vaccine is designed to protect against five different diseases: hepatitis polio, diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (whooping cough). It is estimated that only of children in the United States receive their vaccinations on schedule. This increases the chance that children might become infected with one of these easily preventable conditions. In the study, 2880 children were administered a 5-in-1 vaccine. The results of the vaccination were compared to 2672 children who lived in the same state who received a typical vaccination schedule.

It was found that children receiving the new combination vaccination were more likely to receive their vaccinations on time. Additionally, children who got the 5-in-1 vaccine received fewer shots than children receiving other vaccination schedules.
