SBm Crter Sam Carter, a retired shoe buyer for Maison Blanche and Dillard's department stores, died Wednesday, 313, at his home. He was 76. He was born in Montgomery County, and lived in New Orleans for many years.

He worked as a shoe buyer for more than 30 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Hancock aircraft carrier. Survivors include his wife, Dottie Picard Carter; two daughters, Cynthia C. Hagadorn and Connie F. Carter; a sister, Frances Carter Adams of Clarksville, and two grandchildren.
