SUNDAY, DEC. 16, 2012 THE LEAF-CHRONICLE B3 COMMUNITY A first-hand perspective as Santa on Christmas 4 out, so eventually I just removed the strip under the door and let it run out freely. While downstairs, I decided to don the Santa suit and surprise the grandchildren. The Lerman children were reared with emphasis on the true Biblical meaning of the holiday, with secular emphasis as secondary. But, you know children; deep down they were enthralled with Old St.

Nick, just as other children. I dressed in the suit, and during a slack in the rain, I walked around to the back of the house and appeared outside the glass doors leading to the patio. Santa's arrival caused the same excitement as experienced by most all children. We had a few minutes together to make traditional history, with a happy St. Nick receiving adoration of his eyed Zach loudly exclaimed to me, "Santa Claus was I reacted with "Nawww, you're kidding me!" His reply was loud and priceless, and I've never forgotten it! He excitedly disputed my unbelief with a loud response: "I are "I are "He was Is it not a shame that, as we grow older, we seem lose that wonderfully innocent belief of a child? That's what The Christmas Story is all about.

Jesus Himself said in Matt. 18:4, "Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven." That was during my 25-plus years of portraying the Jolly 01' Elf for the Clarksville Ki-wanis Club. I had brought the Old Elf's costume to our house after that year's portrayal. This was the second Christmas in a row with heavy rain causing water to collect under the two-story portion of our split-level house. The water overflowed and ran like a country stream flowing under the steps into and through the lower level.

until the hour of service Monday at the funeral home. Larry was born August 23, 1944 in Cambridge, NE, son of Burnis and Doris Sayer Hawthorne. In addition to his parents I never give up on the possibility of a white Christmas. Over the years, the climate has changed in this part of the nation, so that we have few chances to enjoy such a delight. So, will this will be our year? We'll have to wait and see.

Last week, I went on one of my frequent memory trips, recalling Christmases past and, Lord willing, this will be my 77th observance. Although I often can't remember yesterday's events, I can still recall the Christmases of those earlier years. One of my most cherished memories comes from the years we lived in the north side of town. Our daughter, Cathy, her husband, Mike, and our grandchildren, Christy, 7, and Zach, 3, of Fort Bragg, N.C., were home for Christmas. As it happened, Adam Harrison Adam Lloyd Harrison age 28, departed this life on Saturday, December 15, 2012.
